There is an appealing background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety six gaming tables, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that contains numerous amenities aside from the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 table games.
